Archaeology

Archaeology, which is one of the newest degrees at Spanish universities, studies the most ancient cultures on Earth through technology, mainly as an auxiliary Science of History. An archaelogist works interpretating humankind's material manifestations in order to understand old societies; a retrospective method to comprehend the current world.
In Andalusia, these studies can be found at the universities of Granada, Sevilla and Jaén, and the minimum grade of this degree is not superior to 5.

Using a great amount of tools, archaeologists dig up an archaeological site looking for the remains of the past, usually associated to Prehistory. Thus, Geography, History (Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary), and Human Evolution are very important subjects.

There are lots of sub-disciplines of Archaeology, such as Battlefield Archaeology or Osteology, among others.
Also related to these studies, there are degrees such as Egyptology and archaeology in the Pre-Hispanic Americas. Moreover, together with Astronomy (as a direct aid), they create Archaeoastronomy, another field in which its workers study how people in the past understood the phenomena in the sky.
I'll talk about Archaeoastronomy and Egyptology through my next posts, so if you wanna get to know more about archaeology in the Pre-Hispanic Americas, click here.
